Exploring Kapotasana with Susan Adam

Writer: Yoga RoseYoga Rose

We are excited to share a special video demonstration featuring Susan Adam, an inspiring member of the Yoga Rose community. In this video, Susan showcases the challenging yet rewarding pose of Kapotasana, also known as the Pigeon Pose.

A Journey Through Yoga

Susan’s yoga journey began in 1993, and since then, she has transformed her practice into a dedicated routine, practicing six days a week since 2013. Her passion for yoga led her to Rose Ann, who started teaching Mysore style classes at Merchant City Yoga (MCY). Susan recalls being captivated by Rose Ann’s practice and knew she wanted to be guided by her expertise.

With Rose Ann’s gentle encouragement and emphasis on safety and openness, Susan has experienced remarkable growth in her practice. At the age of 60, she continues to push her limits and take her practice to new heights, demonstrating that yoga is a lifelong journey that can be embraced at any age.

I am at age 60, yes 60! And to be able to keep practicing the way I do is really important to me, and I love having Rose Ann help take my practice to new levels." - Susan Adam

Kapotasana: The King Pigeon Pose

Kapotasana is an advanced backbend that requires strength, flexibility, and focus. This pose opens the heart and stretches the entire front body while strengthening the back muscles. It’s not just a physical challenge; Kapotasana also cultivates mental resilience, patience, and body awareness.

In the video, Susan demonstrates the pose with grace and poise, showcasing the dedication and practice required to master it. She highlights the importance of aligning oneself with the breath and maintaining a sense of mindfulness throughout the practice.
